New Sender Shield Protection
Sender Safe is a new product to help with fuel security around a Truck Diesel Fuel Tank.
Sender Safe is a robust and easy to fit protective shield for a Truck Fuel Tank Sender unit, increased protection of the fuel tank filler entry by fitting anti siphon devices has meant the Sender Unit is now the way to steal fuel.
The Sender Safe unit sits on top of the fuel tank attached by the fuel tank mounting straps, Sender Safe prevents access and damage to the Fuel Tank Sender Unit.
A recent enquiry from a northern haulier advised the cost of a Sender Rip out to be £800, that’s including the fuel stolen.
Cost effective and in house or on site fitting, Sender Safe takes one more step in fuel security.

CV Traffic Commissioners Review & Advice
Read Some Highlights OF TC’s Annual Report for 2015-16
Recently reported in the Transport Operator, the seven traffic commissioners (TCs) of Great Britain have released their annual report for 2015-16, highlighting a broad range of transport compliance and enforcement issues identified during the course of the year, and their priorities for future progress.
The commissioners, who preside over the eight regional traffic areas, identified key concerns with regard to operator compliance, driving and maintenance standards, as well as problem areas for the authorities themselves to tackle in order to improve the services they offer.
TC Richard Turfitt, who oversees the largest traffic area, in the east of England, said he made little apology for “sounding like a broken record” when it came to vehicle inspections.
“As DVSA estimates that half of MoT fails could be avoided by checking that light-bulbs work, the condition and pressures of tyres and that mirrors, wipers and washers work, there is further work to do,” he said.
“I am appalled by the number of operators who have not even checked whether their inspection sheets are up to date by reference to DVSA’s Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
“In the space of two weeks, two unconnected operators appeared before me suggesting their vehicles were being inspected against safety standards from 1972.”
On average 30% of 5th wheel grease is wasted
Millions of pounds of grease are washed off 5th wheels in this country every year. This not only has a huge impact on the environment causing water pollution but is also extremely costly to haulage and logistic businesses.
During application a significant amount of grease is either dropped in the workshop or falls off onto the tractor unit making the tractor unit dirty, unsightly and uncomfortable to work in.
Greasy residue on surfaces and on the ground can prove hazardous during hitching and can cause individuals to slip on the ground and on the back of tractor units. This has considerable implications from a health and safety view point in and in particular from an employer’s liability perspective.
On average 30% of 5th wheel grease is wasted.
Truck Fifth Wheel Lubrication Liner have Heath & Safety benefits, with less oil and grease on the fifth wheel the likelihood of oil dripping onto a hot exhaust is virtually impossible, hence protecting against truck fire.
Many companies have fitted a Truck Lube Liner recently, David Craig Haulage in Berwick Upon Tweed completed a fleet fit of the Truck Fifth Wheel Lube Covers.

Lorries Face Ban Over New Cycle Safety Measures
London has become the first city in Britain to fine the drivers of HGVs not fitted with equipment like mirrors to protect cyclists.
From the 1st of September all lorries over 3.5 tons in the capital must now be fitted with guards at the side to help prevent cyclists being dragged under wheels in the event of an accident.
They must also have a special type of mirror that helps the driver see those riding bicycles or on foot.
Any that do not have the equipment fitted with the safety equipment may be issued with a £50 fixed penalty notice and operators could face a maximum fine of £1,000 at a Magistrates’ court.
The new rules for lorries will operate 24 hours a day and cover every road in the capital except motorways.
Most HGVs are already required to fit side guards, but lorries involved in the construction industry have been exempt from that requirement. Similarly, while new lorries must have extended view mirrors fitted, older HGVs have been exempt.
A Hi Vu Commercial Vehicle Fresnel lens press-fits inside the truck’s passenger side window, like a mirror, Hi Vu affords the driver a normal, (through the window) view of what’s close to his cab, not a reversed or inverted mirror image. That means the driver will assimilate any danger much faster and react far more quickly.
Due to a blind spot, drivers of trucks cannot see smaller vehicles or other vulnerable road users which are immediately next to the passenger side door of their HGV. These unseen road users can be hit if the truck changes lane in their direction.
For the low price of £9.99 + vat, a Truck Or Bus Fresnel Mirror Lens is an ideal addition to a HGV to the required guards and mirrors.

Truck & Trailer Reversing Alarms
Expert Says All Commercial Vehicles Should Be Equipped with Reversing Protection
Christopher Hanson-Abbot, recently awarded an OBE for his services for vehicle road safety, believes the mandatory fitment of reverse warning systems will reduce fatalities.
Nearly a quarter of all work vehicle-related deaths occur during reversing according to current statistics, and although a large majority of vehicles are fitted with reverse warning equipment, regulations still do not make this mandatory.
Reversing is often the cause of vehicle damage or human injury. Fines have been issued to transport operators for employee injury and high costs in repairs for simple low speed reversing incidents.
Tip Trailer Services have been fined £500,000 plus £56,938 costs after an employee suffered horrific injuries when she was crushed between a trailer and a truck, although a reversing system would have not prevented this incident, the resulting fine shows what reversing incidents could cost a company.
aide automotives Back-Stop commercial vehicle reversing systems key features are that it alerts the driver when a person or object is detected within its 3M range and then the reversing system makes a controlled brake application relative to vehicle speed. This prevents aggressive braking when only moving at low speeds but still arrests the vehicle within 0.4 of a second.

CV-PC On Forklifts Trucks
In Vehicle PC’s Used By Allied Glass
Allied Glass is a supplier of luxury glass packaging, creating beautiful and ground-breaking containers for a raft of international brands. Storing most of its stock in a Leeds warehouse, the products are moved by forklift truck.
The loading of each product onto a forklift truck is recorded by the driver scanning the product’s barcode using a wireless barcode scanner. This device transmits the barcode information to a PC on-board the forklift truck, which runs a bespoke internally developed programme that, processes the data and transmits it to the company’s back-office servers, in real time, over Wi-Fi.
Allied reviewed the Commercial Vehicle -Computer because they were unhappy with the existing on-board computers, which were tablet based. The main issue was that the tablets had very poor Wi-Fi performance, resulting in frequent network dropouts as the forklifts moved around the warehouse. Thus causing delays in goods reaching their intended destination, which in-turn was having a negative effect on the site’s productivity.
The solution was a Commercial Vehicle PC combined with dual high-gain Wi-Fi antennas mounted on the forklift’s roof, a 10.4” touch sensitive screen was mounted in the forklifts cab.
Russell Bavester, IT at Allied said “We are very pleased with this solution, CV-PC has significantly improved our Wi-Fi connectivity. These vehicle computers easily outperforms our existing solution even when the same antennas are used, and our existing barcode scanners work seamlessly. We have also been able to free up a bit of room in the cab, as the previous tablet was very bulky.”
