Truck Fifth Wheel Lube Liner Plates For Brigg Haulage

May 10th, 2017 Comments off

Truck Fifth Wheel Plate

Brigg Haulage have now purchased over 8 Fifth Wheel Lube Liner Plates

The self-lubricating plate for the fifth wheel results in a perfectly lubricated anchorage for your vehicle. Made of a high-density plastic material, this provides significant levels of resistance and durability. Our Truck fifth wheel autolube liner removes the need to regularly lubricate the plate.
If you are not doing repeated drops, it is not unusual for the Lube Liner to last up to 1½ years before needing to be replaced.
To improve performance and reducing operating costs, customers have fitted a durable Truck Fifth Wheel Lube Liner. This high-density polyethylene disc helps removes lubricating problems by eliminating the need for 5th wheel plate grease. Lube Liners attach to a trailer’s kingpin and provide constant lubrication for easier handling, cleaner operation, safer trailing and more reliable performance during on-the-road operations.
It removes the danger of a dry 5th wheel plate and it ends the need to clean plate grease from your tractor and trailer. By replacing the need for lubricating grease, the plate also reduces the possibility of fire from displaced grease falling onto the hot exhaust or onto electronic components.
The minimum life of our liners is typically around 250,000 miles. However, improved driving conditions can result in a considerably longer life of around 500,000 miles.
Brigg Haulage have now purchased over 8 Truck Fifth Wheel Lube Liner Plates for the fleet. Adding a new Lube Liner to a trucks fifth wheel when a truck is under a service routine minimises time off the road and helps spread the purchase cost.

Truck ISO Tester Starts To Sell!

ISOCheck Re Launch & New User Guide

The ISO tester is an advanced circuit tester, it tests a trucks ISO 7638 socket, trailer susie and ABS/EBS functions.
With the launch now well under way, we can detail here the latest user guide.
When using the ISOCheck on a tractor and trailer, please make sure all health & Safety procedures are in place.
The ISOCheck is a test product & a diagnostic tool, the test lead will quickly identify where the fault is .i.e. on a tractor unit, a trailer or the existing Susie lead.
Testing a Tractor Unit
Firstly make sure the ignition is off in the tractor unit, remove the existing Susie lead that is fitted into the ISO socket.
Apply the ISOCheck to the ISO7638 socket on the tractor unit, fit the end with the clear Perspex modification, for future reference this is called “the ISOIndicator”.
Turn on the ignition, with all voltages and earths correct and also the ABS warning light “off” the ISOIndicator will light up GREEN.
If any of the voltages, earths or the warning light circuit is faulty, then the ISOIndicator will light up RED (or warning light on), this indicates a fault with the tractor unit, with the EBSPlus version the lead will now go into diagnostic mode and flash a count sequence in relation to the pin that is at fault. i.e. 5 flashes indicates PIN 5 “the warning light control wire”.
If the ISOCheck Truck Test resulted in Green and to confirm the trailer has a fault, not follow the trailer test procedure.
Testing the Trailer
Turn the truck ignition off.
Plug the ISOCheck Indicator into the trailer, turn on the ignition. The trailer warning light should activate on the truck dash board and the ISOCheck will light up RED.
The warning light should go out after 2 seconds and the ISOCheck will go GREEN, this means the trailers braking system is working at standstill.
If the warning light stays on, then drive the tractor and trailer above 10KPH, the warning light should go out and the ISOCheck will go GREEN. This proves the braking system is working correctly.
If all is working correctly and there is still an ABS fault light, this would mean the existing Susie lead is probably faulty. If the tester stays RED after a drive, stop the unit and trailer and remove the ISOCheck from the trailer. If the tester stays RED there is a power supply fault from the tractor unit or warning light fault, if the ISOCheck Indicator goes GREEN then there is a fault in the trailer system.

Following The Bath Tipper Incident Inquiry HGV Brake Testing Essential

Following the Bath Tipper Incident inquiry one would make a educated judgement to make sure all brakes and testing of brakes on HGV or Commercial vehicles are examined, maintained and tested with the appropriate recorded paper work.
The inquiry showed the Bath tipper truck to have been poorly maintained which resulted when tested to have a very poor brake efficiency.
aide automotive recommend the use of roller brake testers and decelerometers within a 12 month maintenance and testing policy.
Regular testing on RBT’s and then an in-between decelerometer test like BrakeCheck will offer printed brake reports for service or inspection sheets to complete a maintenance policy for any heavy vehicle operator.
You can dear more of he DVSA’s Heavy vehicle brake test: best practice online.

Truck & Trailer Brake Testing With An Infra Red Gun

March 22nd, 2017 Comments off

For Christmas 2016 aide automotive are offering a GIVE AWAY deal!

We have 4 Infra Red Temperature Guns to Give Away via a simple question.
Firstly though; Why An Infra Red Temp Gun??
Infra Red Temperature guns are a excellent Brake Tester for checking individual wheel disks or drums to determine brake activation.
We have heard that the DVSA often recommend the use of Infra Red Temperature Guns and see them as good practice in any Commercial Vehicle Fleet or Truck Workshop.
With the ease of just pointing the Infra Red Light at the wheel hub from the outer edge of a trailer or truck and without removing wheels, an infra Red Temp Gun can indicate if a wheel is not braking efficiently as compared to the other wheels on the vehicle.
We have reports of one Truck Driver stating “Been stopped about 10 times in my driving career over 30 years, the last time, he pointed a thermometer at my wheel hubs & explained to me that one was running cool, meaning that is wasn’t doing its job, I was amazed by the technology, didn’t realise that you could get a temperature reading with a laser/infrared light without even touching the hub. Got the workshop to adjust the brakes when I got back to the yard”
So if you want an early Christmas pressie, email us on matt@aideautomotive.com with the answer to this question.
The DVSA Now recommend 4 Commercial Vehicle Brake tests per year using an RBT or decelerometer; whats does RBT stand for?

TrailerCheck 4 Vans Has Many Advantages Over DIY Trailer Light Testers

aide automotive‘s TrailerCheck 4 Vans has many advantages over DIY trailer light testers, one such advantage is the “Remote Hand Held Air Brake Activator”.
As we all know a load sensing valve adjusts the brake pressure relative to the load on the vehicle. Testing this valve is essential prior to MOT or on trailer inspection.
TrailerCheck 4 Vans incorporates a “Remote Hand Held Air Brake Activator” which combines a digital pressure gauge with push button brake control; Load Sensing Valve adjustment or test can be carried out accurately and quickly by one person.
Switching brakes on and off Via the Remote Air Brake Activator, allows the user to look for wear in s cams and faulty slack adjusters. The digital pressure gauge measures pressure at the brake chamber, ideal for setting load sensing valves.

Truck Hand Brake Alarm

February 15th, 2017 Comments off

Fatal Coupling Incident Prompts HSE Warning

The HSE has urged drivers and operators to take steps to prevent truck runaway incidents when coupling and uncoupling trailers.

The warning follows the case at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on 24 May when driver Anthony Steven Smith, of Porthcawl, was given a 12-week suspended prison sentence and a 12-month driving ban after admitting causing death by careless driving and a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
The case resulted from an incident when Smith was delivering materials to a roadwork site on the A21 in Kent. While coupling the tractor unit to a trailer, it rolled backwards into another vehicle, crushing 20-year-old road worker Dale Pentney and causing fatal head injuries.
A joint investigation by Kent Police and the HSE found that Smith failed to apply the parking brake of the tractor before he left it and that he also failed to follow recognised industry coupling procedures.
An HSE spokesman said: “This was a tragic and avoidable accident and HSE’s sympathies are extended to the Pentney family. Sadly, it shows how dangerous situations can develop quickly.
“These coupling and uncoupling incidents – known as ‘runaways’ or ‘rollaways’ – are all too common.
“Many vehicles are fitted with visual and audible parking brake warning alarms, and if they are not fitted, hauliers should consider retrofitting them to their tractor units as the HSE considers it reasonably practicable to do so. These alarms must never be ignored.
“Drivers must ensure they correctly apply the tractor unit parking brake before exiting the cab and then follow safe decoupling and coupling procedures.”
aide automotive offer a unique range of products providing the greatest level of protection available in helping to prevent roll away accidents caused by failure to apply the park brake (Handbrake).
Features
Audible warning: on attempt to exit if the park brake is not applied
Distinctive warning – avoids confusion
Handbrake silence: once activated can only be silenced by applying the park brake
Ease of fitting
Warning decal: reminds driver to apply park brake and instructs how to silence warning
All vehicles: fits all modern vehicles. Uniformity of fleet
